Rodie Sanchez, “The Man behind the Badge,” is a retired Homicide Detective with 30 plus years in Law Enforcement, 19 being in the Detective Division. Rodie’s appearance in the Discovery Channel’s series Killing Fields
created quite a fan following, when he re-opened two of his cold cases for the show. He is loved on and off the screen for his unique and authentic character.
Rodie is considered an “Ole School Cop.” He has solved crimes without the use of surveillance cameras, cell phones and DNA, which was not available back in the day. He worked in the era when community policing was very important to law enforcement, having to consistently develop that special relationship with the community in order to assist in solving cases.
He has sat on many front porches and drank coffee with grandparents and parents of juvenile delinquents, giving them guidance and direction. His firm but soft approach with these criminals, has made him a trusted and respected man in his community for doing the right thing, even if it meant having to arrest his own family members.
Not all of his law enforcement career has been filled with solving crimes. On a positive note, he is responsible for delivering 13 babies, which, he says, was a highlight of his career. Rodie has also worked many child murder cases, child rapes, child abuse, child porn and child suicide cases.
Once a cop, always a cop, it is in his blood, and even during his retirement he is still assisting several different agencies working cold cases and looking forward to solving more.
