Kelly Wellman

After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, she spent twelve years in Hollywood as an aspiring actress. Growing frustrated with the inconsistency of paying jobs in Hollywood, and inspired by Patricia Cornwell’s book Body Farm, Wellman applied and was accepted to the FBI in the mid-1990’s, trained at Quantico, earned a Master’s in Clinical Psychology, and eventually worked with the Federal Public Defender’s Office in L.A. Fellow CrimeCon speaker Anne Redding encouraged her to look into teaching and today Wellman is co-chair of the Criminal Justice Department at Ventura College. She also maintains a small private therapy practice and still takes on the occasional criminal case as a licensed private investigator.
