Lovely Varughese

Lovely Varughese is a wife and mother of three. She resides in Chicago, IL. Lovely is a Registered Nurse by profession. Born and raised in South India, Lovely was born into a very conservative Christian family. She studied Nursinge and Received her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from India. After moving to the United States in 1990 and beginning her career as a Nurse, she continued her education and earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing. Lovely currently works as an RN Case Manager for the VA hospital and also serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Resurrection University, College Of Nursing.

Lovely has devoted her llife to her family, raising her three children with the values she was raised on. Lovely has always stayed very active in the church, and in her spare time she enjoys music, reading and gardening.

After the tragic loss of her only son, Pravin, her life changed drastically. She was thrust into a different direction in life and her mission became seeking justice for her son. Knowing nothing about the U.S. System of Justice, she was forced to fight this very system which was unfamiliar and unfriendly. She faced many obstacles including bullying by certain officials in power. For the past seven years, she has been an advocate for change in the criminal justice system and has been exposing the injustice her family faced.

Ironically, Lovely has spent the last seven years trying to make a change in Law Enforcement, the very profession her son was hoping to be a part one day. By telling her son’s story, she hopes to make positive but impactful changes in Law Enforcement. Namely, she hopes to instill into current members of Law Enforcement and those to come in the future to Always treat people with respect, dignity and compassion. Although those are things that most of us think of as commonplace, those are the main issues at hand that were lacking from the agencies and individuals in power that Lovely and her family came in contact with during the most horrific time of their life. She continues to speak to communities and students who are planning a career in law enforcement. Her hope is to make a change in an individual before they get into the uniform and make them understand that serving people is a “ Calling” and to consider that as a privilege.
