DR PATRICK BESANT-MATTHEWS


Dr. Patrick Besant-Matthews, M.D., is an internationally renowned expert in forensic science and has lectured extensively to clinical and public service personnel on a wide variety of topics. He holds his doctorate in medicine from the University of London and has completed several residenciesincluding the highly respected Armed Forces Institute of Pathology at the Walter Reed Army Medical center in Washington, CD. He is Board Certified in Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology, but since February 1970 he has limited his practice almost exclusively to Forensic (medico legal) Pathology. His experience includes serving as Staff Pathologist at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, serving as the first Chief Medical Examiner for Seattle-King County, WA, private practice - handling Coroner’s cases under contract, in Anchorage, AK, and New Orleans, LA, and Deputy Chief Medical Examiner for Dallas County, TX. Dr. Besant-Matthews helped establish the International Association of Forensic Nurses in 1992. He has been self-employed since 1989…working as a consultant, teacher and author. He has received awards pertaining to educational activities from The American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Association of Firearm and Toolmark Examiners, International Association of Forensic Nurses, and Evidence Photographers International Council.
